Cara Gorda Cantina

Cara Gorda Cantina creates Lamb Koftas & Chicken Shish with traditional spices from an Artisan Spice House in Turkey, along with fresh, natural ingredients, made with passion and cooked to order.

The Cantina idea was born out of a passion for cooking and meeting new people, along with a love of beautiful Turkish spices and the simplicity of eating out of the box. The food itself was inspired by a Turkish holiday that awakened the taste buds through fresh, healthy, spicy and amazingly tasty food.

The Cantina was originally a famous film star in her own right! She was in the Batman films “The Dark Knight” and “The Dark Knight Rises” as the Police Swat van – Google ‘Batman with Swat van’ to see her in her previous black uniform! Today she looks far prettier in her new bright zingy happy yellow uniform.

The name “CARA GORDA CANTINA”, meaning ‘fat face canteen’ in Spanish, was named after a friend, whose nickname after having mumps was Fat Face! He was originally going to be a partner in the business but sadly due to personal reasons it didn’t quite happen, but he is still part of the wonderful, fun loving team. For obvious reasons they couldn’t use the name ‘Fat Face’ in English so they tweeked it slightly!

Gary is the cheeky chappy behind Cara Gorda Cantina, originally from Cheshire, who has lived in Surrey ever since meeting his amazing wife. Almost always grinning like a Cheshire cat and full of fun, he also has a serious side when the occasion requires it.
