In addition, Nancy makes and sells biodegradable urns for cremation ashes, accepted in natural burial grounds, and saves the beauty of hedgerow finds in fine plaster casts.
I trained in fashion and textile design many years ago, but left the creative world for careers in publishing and PR. I discovered felt making about 12 years ago and have been making, selling and teaching feltmaking for the past ten years. A vast collection of textiles, saved since my school days, has also led me to find ways to use and reuse textiles – a constantly evolving exploration.
Well Urned Rest introduces biodegradable urns suitable for natural burial grounds in both felt and upcycled fabrics, the latter being popular with vegan customers.
About four years ago I started making simple plaster casts of wild plants – a complete contrast to the vibrant colour of my textile work.
Love of the Surrey Hills
Almost all the events I attend and classes I teach are within the immediate area. I love to enthuse people with the joys of feltmaking and the amazing colour combinations achievable. In more recent years I have been introducing complete novices to the fun of simple embroidery and now run a series of beginner classes before Christmas, making cheery decorations. My workshops are run at home in West Horsley or in a client’s home, village hall or other venue. I am happy to teach one to one, but equally can work with up to 20 people.
