Our family business, Nature Reclaimed, came about in response to the increase in litter during lockdown. My husband began ‘plogging’ (a Swedish concept, combining picking litter and jogging) glass bottles and we soon began thinking about how we could give them a second life.
We began making scented candles using 100% natural wax, fragranced with pure essential oil blends, hand poured into upcycled glass bottles, each one cut by hand, by us. Over time we have also expanded our product range to include candlestick holders, greetings cards and printed cotton bags, all made by fellow eco-conscious local makers.
Since our business began we have focused on supporting local and we are proud to now be stocked in two shops locally, both of which are Reigate, family-run independent businesses. We encourage local sales and collections of bottles, to minimise our carbon footprint, and currently work with local drinks businesses, upcycling their empty bottles. We try to keep every step of the process as sustainable as possible; we have installed solar panels that power both our home and the business, including our new electronic van that we use for deliveries.
We spend our time making sure our products are as sustainable, ethical and local as they can be, so that our customers don’t have to.
At the end of last year we ran a pilot event, the Reigate Sustainability Market, which was really well received, so we are excited to be bringing it back as a monthly event throughout 2023. The market is all about showcasing local businesses with sustainability at their heart and takes place on the second Saturday of the month, more details can be found on our website.
