A former BBC journalist turned social media specialist who helps inspire and empower others to communicate more effectively online, on air and in person.
After 15 years as a journalist and reporter in the TV newsroom in 2008 I needed a change. As an early adopter, social media to me looked like the future for communications so I took a giant leap of faith, left the Beeb and set up Ultra Social offering social media consultancy and training.
Within two months of leaving, the BBC Academy invited me back to introduce this ‘newfangled Twitter thing’ to the BBC newsroom and since 2009 I’ve been leading social media training across the corporation.
In the last 12 years I’ve been incredibly lucky to be able to help a fantastic range of clients create top level social media strategy and bespoke media and social media training.
I’m hugely proud to say my clients include the BBC, numerous other media organisations worldwide, The Foreign and Commonwealth Office, The Wellcome Trust, Team GB, The FA, The Jockey Club and many others. I offer mentoring and social media advice for small businesses and Start-ups with most of my experience being in the food/drink/health and wellness sectors.
To date I have personally trained nearly 6000 journalists, programme-makers, PRs, NGOs, executives and small business owners and many of the top names in British broadcasting.
Specialist areas:
I am also a regular speaker at conferences on the psychology of social media and how journalists, newsrooms and brands can best use it to engage their audiences.
Offline I’m a passionate cook and wannabe yoga bunny but my best job – by a million miles – is being a mother of three, step mother to three more and a human slave to one small quirky dog.
** During the #Covid19 crisis I’m offering to help fellow members with free social media advice.
If I can help you with your social media please don’t hesitate to get in touch and I look forward to meeting you … even if we do have to keep our distance for the foreseeable future **
