Hedgehog Surveys

Thursday, 21st September @ 7:00 am - Monday, 25th September @ 9:00 am

We are looking for volunteers from the community to help us with important Hedgehog Surveys at Fox Corner Wildlife Area near Pirbright.

In line with the People’s Trust for Endangered Species recommended survey method, the Society is helping to monitor hedgehog footprint tunnels to collate important data about hedgehog presence in the local area.

On Wednesday 20th September from 11:15am – 13:15pm there will be a tunnel set up and training day for anybody who is interested in learning how to survey for hedgehogs using footprint tunnels. Please register your interest for this using the other Eventbrite page which can be found by clicking here.

From Thursday 21st September onwards, each morning, hedgehog tunnels will need to be checked for footprints until Monday 25th September. Any findings will then need to be recorded and the tunnels will need to be reset for the following evening. This should take no more than 15-30mins. Tunnels can be checked at any time in the morning as long as it is before 9am. This is to avoid other animals and rodents taking the bait.

Volunteers can participate in just one morning or several mornings as they wish. We ask that all volunteers attend the training day if they can but if not then instructions will be sent via email.

Please register for all days you are interested in participating . We will then contact you regarding specific dates.

Reserve a spot here.
