Surrey Hills Enterprises Conservation Volunteering Day

Friday, 1st December @ 9:30 am - 1:00 pm

Free

Exclusively for Members of Surrey Hills Enterprises

Surrey Hills Enterprises Members and National Landscape Team

Join us at Longdown, a beautiful chalk grassland site at the Hampton Estate in Puttenham to help with chalk grassland restoration efforts.

Overlooking beautiful views across the Surrey Hills, we will be using tree poppers (big yellow levers!) to pull out scrub species, such as hawthorn by the root. This will help to stop the trees from growing back, allowing the rich botanical grasslands to thrive.

Chalk grasslands are some of the most plant and insect-rich habitats in the UK and support some of our rarest orchid, butterfly and bee species.

The Hampton Estate is actively restoring the chalk grassland across this area, because it’s a really important habitat corridor for precious chalk downland running west – east along the Hog’s Back.

It would be brilliant to have your help to contribute to this volunteer-led project!
