Mob Grazing Equipment Lydling Farm

Lydling Farm applied for a grant of £2,249.90 to install a temporary electric fencing system to enable mob grazing of two paddocks as a small-scale trial with a view for expanding if it is deemed successful.

This mob grazing system, introduced during a Pasture for Life workshop, aims to work in harmony with nature while enhancing farm profitability. By allowing grass to undergo extended rest periods between grazing sessions, the system promotes healthier soils, which in turn boosts cattle productivity.

Phase 2

Lydling Farm applied for a grant of £1,065.74 to expand on their mob grazing equipment from the original grant that was funded in 2024-2025. The mob grazing system has been adapted from learning it through the Pasture for Life programme. The trail of the system worked so successfully that the farmer wanted to expand it further across his grazing fields.

With the dry summer experienced this summer 2025 it was visibly noticed by neighbouring farmers how much grass there still was in the pastures and how green it was. The aims of this project were:

  • Healthier cattle & increased livestock production
  • Healthier soils and fields
  • Increased wildlife and biodiversity
  • Reduced costs/inputs
  • Better water retention in dry spells
  • Reduction in monoculture of the fields.
