Sheepleas in Bloom: A Nature Walk Exploring Wildflowers
26 April 2026 @ 10:00 am – 1:00 pm
Join us for a 3–4 mile guided walk at Sheepleas (Horsley), exploring one of Surrey’s most beautiful chalk landscapes at a slow, relaxed pace.
COWSLIPS & OTHER WILD FLOWERS. Walking partly along the Jubilee Trail, we’ll follow gently winding paths through open grassland and along woodland edges, enjoying the changing light, sounds, and textures of the landscape. In spring and early summer, Sheepleas comes alive with wildflowers, and we’ll spend time admiring the golden display of cowslips alongside other chalk grassland species. Cowslips thrive here because of centuries of traditional grazing and hay-cutting, which kept the soil thin and nutrient-poor, exactly the conditions these delicate flowers need to flourish. Their presence is a living reminder of the area’s long history as open pasture rather than woodland.
MILLENNIUM VIEWPOINT. One of the highlights of the walk is a stop at the Millennium Viewpoint, where wide, open views stretch across the Surrey countryside. This is a perfect place to pause, take in the scenery, and enjoy a sense of space and perspective.
CONNECTION. This walk is as much about connection as it is about learning, connection with the land and with like-minded people. There will be time for gentle conversation as well as moments of quiet, making this a relaxed and enjoyable shared experience.
PRACTICAL DETAILS: This is an easy 3–4 mile walk, taken at a slow pace, with no steep inclines or declines. It is suitable for those with a medium level of fitness who are comfortable walking for a few hours with regular pauses.
WILD DRINK & SNACK. The walk also includes a wild drink and snack, allowing you to fully savour the experience of the landscape and its seasonal flavours.
