Biochar R & D LC Energy

LC Energy applied for a contribution towards a research and development project to measure the effectiveness of using locally produced biochar as a filter to reduce pollution from Albury Estates fishponds. This is project is looking at the short- and long-term results of removing soluble phosphates,ย nitratesย and other pollutants, testing the effectiveness at filed cale of biochar.ย ย

The project aims to deliver replicable, evidence-based outcomes that support circular economy principles and to contribute to broader goals of climate resilience, localised environmental restoration, and sustainable agricultural remediation and developmentย

  • Pre- and post-trial samples of biochar will be taken and analysed to determine specifically but not limited to the total phosphorus content and concentrations of its forms.ย
  • There will be multiple stages in the project where water testing is carried out to analyse the nutrients in the waterย

The long-term hope is to investigate the upstream borehole concentrations of phosphate to better understandย possible sourcesย and origins within the catchment.ย ย
