Japanese Stitch Workshop: Sashiko & Boro (All levels welcome)
With Linnea Duckworth
Slow down, pick up a needle, and discover the quietly beautiful world of Japanese stitching.
In this hands-on workshop, you’ll be introduced to two traditional Japanese textile arts — sashiko, the practice of stitching simple repeating geometric patterns, and boro, the art of mending and patching fabric to give it new life. Together they tell a story of patience, care, and finding beauty in imperfection.
Guided by Linnea Duckworth, this is a workshop for anyone who has ever wanted to slow down and make something with their hands — no experience needed, and no pressure to be perfect. We’ll work through the foundational stitches together as you decorate your very own fabric bag, a piece you’ll be proud to use and carry.
Yours to take home with you:
— Your decorated sashiko bag (finished or in progress — you’re very welcome to continue stitching at home)
— Your own sashiko needle and thread to keep, so you can pick it back up whenever you like
What to expect:
— A warm, unhurried introduction to sashiko and boro techniques
— Guided mindful stitching — this is a space to breathe, focus, and enjoy the process
— All materials provided
— A small group setting with plenty of time for questions and personal support
— A beautiful spread of Japanese green teas and traditional Japanese sweets to enjoy as you stitch
This workshop is perfect for beginners, curious crafters, or anyone looking for a gentle, creative break from the busyness of everyday life. If you can hold a needle, you can do this.
All materials, refreshments, and your needle and thread to keep are included. Just bring yourself.
