Farnham Heath is a popular gateway to explore this part of the Surrey Hills, and providing improved access for people to enjoy and appreciate nature is an important part of the RSPB’s vision for the site.

The entrance path from the car park (shared with the neighbouring Rural Life Living Museum) was originally built with a raised timber edge, specifically to help visitors with visual difficulties, and wheelchair users. By making their first experience of the reserve a safe and positive one, the aim was to create confidence that this is a space for all.  However, the original timber edging was beginning to rot and needed to be replaced if it is to continue to act in this way.

In addition, one of the reserve’s three waymarked trails, the Green Trail, had sections requiring surfacing improvement work to improve access for all users, especially in the winter months.  The funding provided the materials and contractor to complete this work.
