After a long and successful career in marketing, I decided to pursue my passion for jewellery making by studying Jewellery and Silversmithing at the University for the Creative Arts in Farnham, where I graduated with first-class honours in 2023. Following my studies, I was honoured to accept an Artist in Residency position at the university, allowing me to further explore and refine my artistic vision while utilizing the school’s exceptional facilities.
My work is deeply inspired by the beauty of nature and the organic forms found in our surroundings. With a strong sense of discovery, exploration, and experimentation, I am continually captivated by the ever-changing natural world, which offers an expansive canvas for creativity.
Each piece reflects my observations and interpretations for example ranging from the intricate textures found in rock formations, the mesmerizing dance of light on water, to the intricate structures of natural flora such as lichen and bark.
These diverse inspirations drive me to explore texture and surface, resulting in jewellery that possesses an organic, tactile quality, inviting wearers to connect with the essence of nature.
I utilize techniques such as wax carving, mould forming, reticulation, and lost wax casting to focus on creating organic, tactile qualities in my jewellery. Primarily working with silver in the lost wax casting process, I also incorporate gemstones that are cast in place, allowing the molten metal to envelop these precious stones. This technique results in bespoke, one-of-a-kind pieces that beautifully capture the essence of each gemstone.
Committed to sustainability, I use recycled metals and ethically sourced precious gemstones to minimize my environmental impact, allowing nature’s artistry to shine through in every creation.
Spending time outdoors with my two dogs allows me to keenly observe my environment and capture unique perspectives that often go unnoticed. I cherish the feeling of being present in the moment, seizing snapshots of life. There are some great places to walk in the Surrey hills, such as Puttenham, Burpham Nature Reserve and Newlands Corner to name a few, where I can seek inspiration throughout the seasons. I have to say Cornwall is also another great source of inspiration for me, but not on my doorstep.
