The Wey & Arun Canal Trust, a registered charity, aims to restore the 23-mile abandoned canal which runs through Surrey and Sussex and create the missing link between Britain’s inland waterways and the English Channel.
Our 3,000 members, volunteers and staff have restored significant stretches and our showcase site at Loxwood, West Sussex, hosts public boat trips from Spring to Autumn and special Santa cruises in December as well as welcoming canoeists and paddleboarders. The Trust was formed in 1973 and we will be celebrating our 50-year anniversary in 2023.
Our most recent restoration was in Birtley (near Bramley) where a stretch of canal has been opened up with two lift bridges that allow as beautiful circular walk along the canal and the Downslink to be enjoyed.
Our long-distance footpath the Wey-South Path is shown on Ordnance Survey maps and runs either next to or near to the canal route. We hope you get to enjoy the canal and that you can support us by becoming a member, making a donation or by joining our group of volunteers.
The Trust also manages Hunt Nature Park at Shalford, where wheelchair-friendly boardwalks and viewing platforms offer a place to spot the varied wildlife here.
