Greyfriars Vineyard

OUR STORY

Greyfriars is located on the sunny south facing chalk slopes of the Hog’s Back at Puttenham,  just outside Guildford in Surrey. The original vineyard was planted in 1989 and since 2010 has been expanded almost 50 acres on three sites focusing on producing stunning English Sparkling Wine. A brand new Winery containing state of the art winemaking equipment and dug a natural chalk underground cellar for ageing our wine prior to release has been added.

Greyfriars vineyards are predominantly planted with the three classic Champagne varieties; Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. There are also small plots of Pinot Gris and Sauvignon Blanc and Greyfriars are producing a range of spectacular English Sparkling Wines reflecting the unique local soil conditions, climate and heritage of the Surrey North Downs. Early releases of their wine since 2011 have gained critical acclaim and have already won a number of prizes in international competitions including the Decanter World Wine Awards.

FIND US

Southbound A3 – If approaching from Guildford on the A3 Southbound take the slip road onto the A31. The turn off for Greyfriars Vineyard is approximately 1 mile from the A3 slip road. You will see a vergeside sign saying “Vineyard and Veterinary Centre”and the turn off for the Vineyard is shortly after this. Look for the large white sign at the entrance. Please DO NOT turn off into the entrance for Greyfriars House which you will pass on the way to Vineyard on the A31. This is a private house and is not associated with us.

Northbound A3 – If approaching on the Northbound A3 you need to take the B3000 towards Puttenham. This will lead you back onto the A31 Eastbound towards Guildford and you can then follow the driving instructions for approaching Eastbound from Farnham on the A31 to reach the Vineyard.

Eastbound A31 – As you approach Guildford on the A31 Eastbound from Farnham just before the road splits to join the A3 there is a slip road on the right hand side which allows you to U Turn back onto the A31 Westbound towards Farnham. You can then use the driving directions above to reach the Vineyard.

Public Transport – The public transport links to our site at the time of writing (2020) are not always ideal. We recommend you take a taxi from Guildford Train Station, which costs at the time of writing around £10-15. If you would like to reach us by bus then the nearest station is Guildford Station and from here you walk to the Friary Centre (5 mins walk) and take the 65 Bus and disembark opposite Greyfriars House. You then have to walk 5 minutes along the side of a very fast moving and dangerous road A road before having to then cross a dual carriageway. We do not recommend visiting us via this method, as we consider it to be too dangerous. Bus times and routes can be found here https://bustimes.org/services/65-guildford-farnham-alton
