Join me for a gentle circular walk through the landscapes of Crowhurst, centred around one of the oldest living beings in Britain: the ancient yew tree in St George’s churchyard, estimated to be over 4,000 years old.

SPRING EQUINOX. This walk takes place on the Spring Equinox, a natural moment of balance between light and dark, and a beautiful time to pause, reflect, and notice what is beginning to emerge. As we walk, we will move through quiet lanes, open fields, and ancient woodland, allowing the pace to be slow and attentive.

BLUEBELLS. In the woods, the first signs of bluebells will be visible, fresh green leaves pushing through the soil, signalling the season ahead. While the flowers may not yet be opened, this is a time of quiet promise, when growth is underway but not yet on display. It is a moment that mirrors much of life: beginnings that do not yet ask to be seen.

FOUR THOUSAND YEAR-OLD YEW. Our time with the yew tree will be the heart of the walk. We will pause here to reflect on deep time, continuity, and resilience, what it means to stand rooted through centuries of change, and what we might carry forward into our own lives as the year turns towards spring.

DIFFICULTY: This walk is suitable for most abilities, with a relaxed pace and regular pauses. It is designed as a nature-connected experience rather than a hike, inviting presence, conversation, and moments of quiet.

DISTANCE: approx. 3–5 miles.
TERRAIN: Mostly gentle paths and lanes.
FOCUS: Nature connection, seasonal awareness, reflection.
LOCATION: Crowhurst, East Sussex.

Come as you are, dressed for the weather, and prepared to walk slowly, notice deeply, and spend time in the company of trees, land, and early spring. Snacks and drinks included. You are invited to bring your own packed lunch.
