Join Charlotte for an immersive workshop exploring Shibori, the ancient Japanese art of fabric folding and dyeing. Begin your journey by learning about two traditional indigo-bearing plants; Japanese indigo and woad, including practical tips on how to grow them at home.

EXPLORE A VARIETY OF SHIBORI METHODS. Throughout the morning, Charlotte will guide you through a variety of Shibori techniques, including Kanoko, Arashi, and Nui methods. Working primarily with silk fabrics, you’ll also have the opportunity to experiment with your own small fabric pieces if time allows.

Your shibori fabric will become a silk scarf or cotton square furoshiki. You will have the option.

THE JAPANESE ART OF FUROSHIKI. After shibori, while we wait for your fabric to dry, we will pause to explore the art of furoshiki wrapping with Lisa. Learn versatile, eco-friendly techniques for presenting gifts of all shapes, from rectangular boxes to bottles, turning every gift into a sustainable and meaningful gesture. This timeless Japanese practice not only delights the recipient but also helps reduce paper waste, offering an elegant, reusable alternative for mindful gifting.

CREATIVE EXPLORATION. This workshop encourages creative exploration, allowing you to develop your own patterns and compositions through guided experimentation. By the end of the session, you will take home a beautifully created cloth, either a silk scarf, or a cotton square that can be used for furoshiki, gift wrapping.
