SHINRIN YOKU. Originating in Japan as shinrin-yoku, forest bathing is a gentle, mindful walk through woodland (no more than 1–1½ miles). Moving at an unhurried pace, we use nature connection, mindfulness and simple meditative practices to awaken the senses and invite deep presence. There is no destination to reach, just time to notice, breathe and be supported by the forest atmosphere.

ENCHANTING BLUEBELLS. In April, the Chantries semi-ancient woodland is at its most enchanting. Fresh beech leaves unfurl overhead, creating a soft, dappled canopy that allows dancing spring light to reach the forest floor. Beneath this living ceiling, the ground becomes a sea of beautifully scented bluebells, their calm blue tones stretching between ancient trees and along winding paths.

BLUEBELLS BREATHE. Here, the forest feels alive in a particular way. Bluebells, like all plants, are constantly exchanging breath with the air, releasing oxygen, offering moisture, and subtly shaping the woodland atmosphere. As they “breathe,” the air softens and cools, scents deepen, and many people notice their own breathing begin to slow and ease in response. During our walk, you’ll be gently guided to pause among the bluebells, allowing your breath to settle and to experience this quiet exchange between body, plant and place.

TREES. Located just a mile from Guildford town centre, the Chantries is a richly layered woodland, home to sweet chestnut, oak, beech and birch, alongside holly, sequoias, Scots pine, Douglas fir and other conifers. This diversity creates a nurturing sensory landscape that supports calm, curiosity and connection.

TEA CEREMONY We complete our journey with a Japanese-inspired woodland tea ceremony, offering a moment of reflection and gentle closure beneath the trees.

FOREST BATHING SCIENCE. Along the way, you’ll learn how the art and science of forest bathing supports health and wellbeing, calming the nervous system, reducing stress and enhancing mood, benefits that many people continue to feel long after leaving the woodland. Come and experience the stillness, scent and soft beauty of bluebell season, and discover what it feels like when bluebells breathe.
