The Hampton Estate applied for a grant to plant 55 native trees as individuals and groups on an area of chalk downland, which is being restored as part of an approved Countryside Stewardship Higher- Tier Scheme application.
The trees will provide shelter for the grazing cattle, but also absorb and sequester a large amount of carbon from the atmosphere. There will also be an increase in biodiversity by the creation of specific and rare wooded habitats.
