Heathland interpretation Amphibian and Reptile Conservation
ARC applied for funding to install interpretation panels and signage atย Crooksburyย Common, a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) within the Surrey Hills. This site is the last known location in Surrey for the rare natterjack toad, as well as supporting other scarce heathland species.ย
The interpretation boards will inform visitors about these species, help mitigate disturbance, and raise awareness of the siteโs sensitivity. They will also educate the public about the serious risk of wildfires on the common.ย
It is hoped that the signage will better inform site users, many of whom already feelย a strong senseย of ownership over the common and foster a greater sense of stewardship and responsibility for safeguarding this sensitive landscape and the rare wildlife it supports.ย
