Hedge Planting Manor Farm
2022/2023
The planting of 288m of hedgerow containing mixed native species, along with 115m of gapping up along the existing laid hedge which FiPL funded last year.
The project is aimed to increase connectivity across the farmed landscape, this will also improve biodiversity and thicken the base of the existing laid hedge. The location of the hedgerows have been chosen to conserve and enhance the character of the landscape- although significant hedge pre-work needs to be carried out in order to clear brambles to allow the success of the new hedgerow.

Manor Farm applied for £38,250.43 to continue with its ambitious landscape-scale hedge planting scheme across the farm, connecting habitats, increasing biodiversity and building on the previous two years’ hedge planting schemes. The farm has now planted in excess of 5.5km of new hedges across the Surrey Hills! The location of the hedgerows has been chosen to enhance the character of the landscape with significant pre-work carried out to clear brambles and allow the new hedgerows to grow. The farm has hosted a large number of volunteer days including many organised by the Surrey Hills Society’s Projects and Volunteer Coordinator to plant the hedges. The majority of the hedges have been stock fenced to protect them from the grazing cattle.
