Natural Flood Management Pond Restoration Manor Farm
Manor Farm applied for £9,177.48 to restore Park Farm Pond for Natural Flood Management, in collaboration with Surrey County Council’s Flooding and Climate Resilience (F&CR) team.
As part of a broader Natural Flood Management scheme for the Pipp Brook river catchment, the SCC team identified that de-silting, deepening, and re-laying the clay base of Park Farm Pond would significantly increase its water-holding capacity. This would enable the pond to retain more water year-round and release it gradually during periods of heavy rainfall, reducing downstream flood risks.
Using Lidar mapping, the pond was shown to have substantial potential for water retention, further highlighting its value in mitigating flooding and improving conditions downstream. The SCC F&CR team has been remotely monitoring water levels before the project’s initiation and will continue to do so after its completion.
The restoration is also expected to enhance biodiversity within the pond and its surrounding habitat, providing ecological as well as flood management benefits.
