The grant allowed for the farm to purchase a minimum/zero tillage seed drill, this enabled the farm to adopt a more environmentally friend regime of cultivation. The machinery reduces the amount of carbon released into the atmosphere and helps improve/ retain soil structure. It will also result in less traffic on the soil and therefore less compaction resulting in reduced flood risk and soil erosion.
Due to Mr Muggeridge receiving a commercial gain from this drill FiPL could only fund 40% of the costs of the machinery, therefore the farmer had to match fund the rest of the payment.
