Rainwater Harvesting Surrey Wildlife Trust
On the North Downs the Dawcombe Nature Reserve wanted to improve connectivity for chalk grassland species, by installing a rainwater harvesting system to enable grazing in Glebe Glade. This system would provide water to the remote part of the chalk downland. The site has been designed to provide a sustainable long-term solution, consisting of a 3m x 2m roof structure to collect rainwater and a 1000 litre above-ground storage tank supplying a standard water trough. The system is small enough and will be located such that it cannot be seen from public rights of way or the surrounding countryside, to avoid any impact upon the landscape.
