Water infrastructure Godwin Austen
Steven Godwin Austen applied to install three solar-powered pumps and associated water troughs along the River Tillingbourne, in order to prevent cattle from entering the river, reducing bank erosion and water pollution.ย
It wasย identifiedย that cattle accessing the river posed a safety risk and contributed to bank erosion and water contamination. With funding from Capital Stewardship,ย a riparian buffer was created along the riverโs edge toย exclude livestock; however, this created the challenge of providing an alternative water supply for the cattle. Surrey Wildlife Trust recommended the installation of solar-powered pumps to supply drinking water across three fields, ensuring livestock welfare while protecting the riverbanks from further damage.ย
