Airtime CIC applied for £19,713.00 to deliver a 12-week environmental volunteer programme aimed at equipping 12 young people aged 18-24, from underrepresented communities, with practical farming and conservation skills and experience.

Volunteer sessions were held throughout Surrey, with a strong emphasis on the Surrey Hills, and were supported by organizations such as the Surrey Hills Society, Surrey Wildlife Trust, and the National Trust. Each session offered a mix of hands-on practical tasks, educational activities, and career guidance.

At least 60% of the sessions took place on farms, where participating farmers received a small payment as both an incentive and compensation for any related costs.

This programme created valuable opportunities for participants to gain practical experience, develop skills, and explore career paths in farming and conservation. It also helped strengthen connections between young people, local farms, and conservation organisations, fostering collaboration and community engagement.
