The Gallops, Mickleham Downs

Scroll Down

The Gallops are situated along the top of Mickleham Downs offering downland scenery – grass and woodland on a chalk and flint base. The gallops head in the direction of Cherkley Wood where you will discover the grand Estate known as Cherkley Court, once the home of Canadian-born press baron Lord Beaverbrook.  During WW2 Churchill would land his plane on the gallops to visit Lord Beaverbrook who was a Minister for aircraft production and a key member of the war cabinet.
