Hear from Thames Basin Heath rangers Louis and Zhinlap about how we can all protect, respect and enjoy the countryside for people and nature. They’ll be giving some tips on keeping to paths to avoid disturbing ground nesting birds.

“Surrey’s countryside is shared between people and nature. It’s important to keep to paths so as not to disturb wildlife”.

In this short video taken on Whitmoor Common which forms part of Worplesdon group of commons, Louis and Zhinlap explain the importance of protecting our commons for current and future generations. They highlight a few tips on caring for nature including;

  • Do not cause damage or disturbance. Leave rocks, stone, plants and trees as you find them and take care not to disturb wildlife including birds that nest on the ground.
  • Stay on marked paths, even if they’re muddy, unless wider access is available, such as on open access land. This helps to protect crops and wildlife.
