Just Hike – 12.5Km North Downs Way & Watts Gallery hike

Join NDW Ambassador and guide Martin David for a 12.5km/7.7mile hike along the North Downs Way starting at the Watts Gallery and Chapel, Puttenham and its wonderful settings.

Event Description:
Our wonderful and varied 12.5km/7.7miles country walk starts from the Watts Gallery, the Arts and Crafts jewel of Surrey. After taking a little detour around the Watts Chapel and cemetery, we head toward the Puttenham along some stunning churches, farms and view points. Passing Puttenham Heath we learn about the Royal encounter at Frowsbury Hill, a famous resident, goats and vineyards. Passing the Watts Gallery again via a differnt path, we’ll encounter more history along the North Downs Way and finally circle back edging the historical and stunning grounds of Loseley park. We will finish the walk with an optional visit to the cafe when we return to the Watts Gallery. (Dogs allowed on the walk but not inside the cafe)

Please ensure you bring water and snack for the walk.
Please wear sturdy shoes; bring waterproofs if necessary. The distance and duration of the walk depends on the group’s pace and weather conditions. We aim for a medium walking pace with several information and photo stops.

Difficulty: Easy to Moderate/Some sandy paths and some inclines
Duration: 3.5-4h
Bring: Own snacks/drink (money for coffee shop at Watts Gallery)
Toilets available: Watts Gallery/start & end, St Nicholas church/Compton, Puttenham Golf club & other pubs along the first 6.5km loop of the walk and at the end at 12.5km

Meet / park: Meet / park:

Meet: Please arrive 5min earlier at the Car park of the Watts Limnerslease ‘Artist House’  NOT the Watts Gallery, so only use the GPS to approach the Watts Gallery.
If you drive Down Lane take the left turn to the Limnerslease Artist House (sign posted North Downs Way)  which is on the left before you get to the Watts Gallery.  Follow the tarmaced track and take a right turn to reach the car park.
