The BBC’s hit show Pilgrimage, in which celebrities take a spiritual journey together, has captured the growing interest in Britain’s ancient walking routes and how more and more people are stepping out to share the beauty of the environment and conversation as they get away from the everyday concerns of life. Home to the Pilgrim’s Way and even older Harrow Way, Farnham can lay claim to be one of the oldest walking and pilgrimage centres in the UK. Now, this history will be explored in a free talk and ‘micro-pilgrimage’ to be hosted by St Andrew’s church as part of this year’s Farnham Walking Festival.
Dawn Champion from the British Pilgrimage Trust will be giving an illustrated talk at the church at lunchtime on Friday 16th May. Entitled Ancient Practice Modern Meaning, Dawn will be exploring the history of pilgrimage and why it’s becoming so popular and relevant today.
The event starts at 1.15pm and will be followed by Dawn leading a ‘micro-pilgrimage’ around Farnham’s historic town centre. The event is free and booking isn’t required.
