As well as the glorious views on this gentle walk, the National Trust’s Sailor’s Stroll will take you to the summit at Gibbet Hill – the second highest point in Surrey – you will also learn about the barbarous murder of the unknown sailor. You can return to the café along the same route
This is mostly level and surfaced for much of its length. The paths are well maintained but may become slippery in wet or wintry weather.
A Mountain Trike all-terrain push wheelchair (MTpush – www.mountaintrike.co.uk) can be borrowed free of charge. To find out if our facilities and chair are suitable for your needs, and reserve, please email: hindhead@nationaltrust.org.uk. Weight restrictions: 17st/100kg. Chair user must be accompanied by person wearing appropriate footwear.
This project has been supported by the Surrey Hills DEFRA Access for All Fund.
The route is waymarked with signs saying Sailor’s Stroll that start close to the café and lead you towards a viewing area. You can return the way you came, or if you head straight after the cattle grid, you will end up in the carpark.
