7 June 2025 @ 11:00 am – 1:00 pm
Join us for two hours of peace and tranquility in a beautiful setting, learning about the Japanese “way of writing,” SHODO.

The philosophy of shodo is deeply rooted in Zen Buddhism. It emphasises the importance of mindfulness and concentration, which are essential qualities in both calligraphy and meditation. Shodo is practiced with an inner silence, calmness and a body-and-mind-connection.
Join us for two hours of peace and tranquility in a beautiful setting, learning about the Japanese “way of writing,” SHODO.
This class will be taught by Akemi Kauffmann, Shodo master from Oxford. In this 2- hour class, watch the beauty and flow of a master at work. Then, Akemi-sensei will teach you to write a select few kanji characters. We practice during the lesson, then write on Japanese ‘washi’ paper to take home. After 8 lessons, you will receive a ‘shikishi’ from Japan, a type of ornamental square 20cm x 20cm card with gold or silver trimming to write your chosen kanji character to display. No experience required.
